Accessories Magazine just got a SS18 preview of Club Monaco ready-to-wear and accessories. This is the second collection for Steven Cateron, Head of Design for Women’s and Men’s. Previously, he was just head of Men’s. Below, a quick look at the influences, the apparel and the accessories that will hit stores next season.
“I was born and raised in Los Angeles, California,” says Cateron, who grew up sewing and dreaming about a future in the fashion world. Interested in fashion design and history, he immersed himself in vintage, gaining a deep appreciation for the art of its intricate detail. Steven studied Fashion Design and Marketing in California, before moving to New York City where he learned the importance of both cut and fabric during his time at Theory. From there he joined Club Monaco, where he has honed in on his passion for classic, clean designs, always with a hint of deconstruction. During his nearly 10 years at Club Monaco, he has become well versed not only in the Brand’s history, but has also been an integral part of its continued evolution.
THE CLUB MONACO WOMAN
“Club Monaco is a brand for individuals and their unique lives, so when I think about ‘the Club Monaco woman’, I don’t envision just one woman, but many,” says Cateron. “She is multifaceted. She knows who she is and isn’t looking for confirmation of her identity. At the same time, she is also inquisitive and curious, open to new experiences and eager to explore the world around her. She is looking for pieces that showcase her individual style, but don’t overpower her. As a designer, it’s important to me to create a strong connection with our customers and their lives and needs. I’m continually learning how to better understand the Club Monaco woman as her life changes and evolves.”
THE CLUB MONACO DESIGN
Black and white figures in prominently for SS18, with polka dots, stripes and gingham adding a modern Americana touch. Pops of fuchsia in slides or wrapped ball hoop earrings add pop.
“The Design Team and I are a collective group, working closely to both support and challenge each other every day. We are largely inspired by vintage, with attention to detail at the forefront of our process. We work tirelessly to create pieces that are purposeful, impeccably fit, and made with the best fabrics. We are constantly deconstructing archival Club Monaco designs, mixing materials and reworking shapes to reinvent Club Monaco essentials and develop our customers’ wardrobes. We believe that the wearer should define the piece, so there is an inherent and intentional ease to everything we design.”
