New York—There are only 8 shopping days left till Mother’s Day and if retailers play their cards right—luring in Millennials—then the build-up to the holiday could prove lucrative.

In its latest consumer survey released this week, the National Retail Federation found that apparel and accessories are among the top items on mom’s gift lists. While overall spending is expected to be down, some key fashion categories should benefit. Some $1.7 million is expected to be spending on apparel and accessories and another $3.6 billion on jewelry.

Discounts for Personal Information?

Department store especially need to pull out the stops to attract the 18 to 24-year-olds, where 56% of them say they’ll visit a department store to search for mom’s present.

But it’s 25 to 34 year olds who will spend the most on mom, spending an average of $216.53.

While department stores and other retailers have these shoppers in-store or online, it may be a good idea to bribe them with discount offers to get them to reveal personal data. Even though recent cyber attacks (Target) have made consumers more wary to exposing personal data, a Snapette study found that 50% of respondents would happily provides retailers with information for a discount. And while most (56%) would give personal data online, about 48% said they would share their information in-store.
