New York—While St. Patrick’s Day isn’t celebrated for another 10 days or so, retailers may get a bit of the luck of the Irish from it. Despite the fact, St. Patrick’s is a minor holiday in the scheme of things, the National Retail Federation (NRF) reported this week that 133 million Americans celebrate the day.

For retailers who cater to the still-elusive Millennial generation, St. Patrick’s may be more important. The NRF survey found that 77% of 18 to 24 year-olds plan to celebrate the holiday and 90% of them will wear something green (preferably buying some green colored apparel and/or accessories, too).

Lucky Connections?

There’s been plenty of good luck recently among retailer/designer/celebrity collaborations. For instance, Taylor Swift continues her kick for kicks with a Keds shoe collaboration. And at TOMS shoes, home designer Jonathan Adler has an expanded footwear and accessories collection.

Also hoping to a bit of that Irish good luck are Japanese retail giant Fast Retailing which is reportedly looking to buy J. Crew, a move that would greatly enhance its U.S. presence.
