Vidal Sassoon

Vidal Sassoon's geometric hair demanded bold fashions for balance

New York–“If you don’t look good, we don’t look good.”

If you don’t know that tagline, you’ve been living under a rock for the past half a century. Vidal Sassoon’s “wash and wear” approach to hair styling was a radical concept at the time, especially coming off the highly pinned and lacquered styles of the 50s. Now, an upcoming biopic explores Sassoon’s impact on shifting women’s attitudes toward haircare, and ultimately, themselves.

Even if you’re not much of a hair aficionado, you won’t want to miss the dazzling parade of fabulous 60s fashion and accessories, including oversized eyewear, long and short leather gloves, opaque legwear and lots of geometric and color-blocked shift dresses.

The movie also explores how fashion, style and social issues intertwined during that era. Sassoon, who is 82 years old, was instrumental in bringing the film (as well as a book, coming out this spring) to life, offering his keen insights and experiences. To view the trailer, click here.

The movie was produced by Michael Gordon (founder of Bumble and Bumble hair care line and company) and Jackie Bauer, executive produced by Jim Czarnecki and directed by Craig Teper.

After its New York limited opening on February 11, the movie travels to Los Angeles and Chicago.
