You know how it’s sorta mandated that the quarterback date the head cheerleader? Well, hotter than hot sneaker brand VANS has hooked up with hot and in-demand brand Disney to celebrate Mickey Mouse’s 90th birthday. (And in true dating democracy, VANS has created both Mickey and Minnie designs.)
Disney has been collaborating with everyone from Coach to Kate Spade to Sephora in recent years, and Vans is the latest fashion brand to jump into the nostalgia fray and introduce new customers to Disney/Mickey.
BY THE DECADES
To commemorate the 90th anniversary of Disney’s beloved character, Vans designers brought decades of iconic Mickey Mouse imagery to footwear, apparel and accessories, and the 11 designs capture Mickey Mouse’s spirit from the 1920’s to present day.
40s: The 1940’s introduction of the animated film Fantasia brought Mickey Mouse’s mischievous persona to light as “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice”. Taking inspiration from the Sorcerer’s hat, the Sk8-Hi features velvet panels with celestial moon and star embroidery, all complemented by blue suede panels and contrast yellow stitching.
80s: A special model of the Old Skool channels the 90s with multi-color uppers in pink, yellow and green, topped with a Mickey Mouse print and Vans’ iconic Checkerboard pattern. Nostalgic ‘80s-inspired apparel and accessories options including hoodies, jackets, backpacks and accessories for both men and women.
90s: Both Mickey and Minnie get a punk makeover with the Checkerboard Slip-On. Vans and Disney fans can showcase their own “Off The Wall” attitude in the LS BF Tee, backpack, hat and hoodie that showcase flaming sleeves and a Checkerboard hood liner.
The Vans and Disney Mickey Mouse Collection will be available to shop in Vans partner and retail stores and online at www.vans.com/Disney beginning on October 5.
