Sunglasses have been in a retro mini trend for a while, so it was just a matter of time before things would swing the other way. And swing they did. More than a few designers showed shield sunglasses during Fashion Month, but what was so interesting was how broadly they were interpreted. From futuristic to sporty to feminine, shields are becoming designers’ new blank canvas…and an accessory to watch.
The giant mirrored shields at Rick Owens evoke Virtual Reality headsets and a sci-fi feel.
Givenchy took a straight-up jewelry approach, covering clear shields with drippy crystals that matched the crystal earrings.
Miu Miu also feminized shields and turned them into a feminine item, adorning them with giant crystals and bows.
In New York, Tom Ford took a dramatic-yet-classic approach, mixing squared-off shields with a head scarf.
Not for the masses, but Marques Almeida put shields on a fur helmet for a unique approach.
Look closely and you can see the Stella McCartney logo emblazoned right on the front of the lenses
In Milan, Tods took a classic approach with a twist, rimming modest shields with rust-colored leather to match the read-to-wear and other accessories.
