Chicago—When you live amid the snow belt, no wonder Midwesterners are fond of the sunny disposition of an Caribbean based lifestyle.

Last week, Tommy Bahama, the island-inspired lifestyle brand celebrated its 20th by opening its Chicago flagship at 664 N. Michigan Ave. This is the company’s third store in the Chicago area.

“In the last six months, Tommy Bahama has opened five flagship locations around the world,” said Doug Wood, president/coo at Tommy Bahama. “We are excited to have the Michigan Avenue location, one of the most prestigious shopping destinations in the world, as our newest store. The Midwest has always been a market with a real understanding of the Tommy Bahama brand and what it represents. Whether wearing Tommy Bahama at home or on vacation in warmer climates, Midwesterners have embraced the concept and the products. Opening a new store on Chicago’s Magnificent Mile is a real milestone for the company.”

‘Urban Resort’ Décor

Situated on the ground floor of the reconstructed landmark Farwell Building, the store is one of the company’s “urban resort” design concepts. Designed by Michael Neumann Architecture, LLC, the 4,400-square-foot store features a light, open and airy space that has high impact through coffered ceiling details, a neutral color palette in conjunction with fresh wood tones of limed-oak and metal accents. Walls are washed in shades of neutral tones that provide a clean backdrop for the rich, color palettes and art-quality prints for which the brand’s sportswear and swimwear is known. Special attention was given to lighting design which emulates natural sunlight. The façade maintains the original integrity of the historic building.

The new Tommy Bahama retail store carries the lifestyle brand’s collection of men’s and women’s sportswear, swimwear, accessories, and footwear as well as select home décor items.

Tommy Bahama, a division of Oxford Industries, owns and operates more than 100 Tommy Bahama stores worldwide, with 15 of those locations offering a Tommy Bahama restaurant and bar. Tommy Bahama merchandise is also available at  Nordstrom and other specialty retailers and
