The Sak Brands to Expand into Fashion Accessories for 2013

New York—That iconic simple crochet tightweave handbag has come a long way—evolving into a lifestyle company that will soon be adding fashion accessories to its growing scope of products.

The Sak Brand Group has partnered with The Accessory Collective by GMPC to license its The Sak and Sakroots brands for fashion accessories. The Accessory Collective will develop and sell hats, scarves and belts using The Sak and Sakroots signature brand elements such as crochet, hand-stitch detailing and original prints. The collections will be available at retail in Spring 2013.

“During the past year we have been evolving The Sak and Sakroots brands into complete lifestyle collections including footwear, tech accessories and travel,” says Mark Talucci, co-founder/ceo at The Sak Brand Group. “The addition of hats, scarves and belts is the next logical and exciting addition to the assortment. We are excited to learn and grow the brand by partnering with The Accessory Collective while leveraging the extensive knowledge they have in this category.”

With its track record of more than 30 years as a designer and manufacture of private label and branded fashion accessories, The Accessory Collective’s expertise encompasses a wide range of categories, including fashion headwear, fashion scarves, cold weather, belts and hair accessories, which it distributes across retail channels.

Developing into ‘Full Lifestyle Brands’

“The Accessory Collective has developed a thorough understanding of The Sak and Sakroots brands and we eagerly anticipate adding hats, belts and fashion scarves to the product mix,” said Flash Mandel, principal at The Accessory Collective. “We anticipate that both loyal and new customers alike will embrace these new product offerings as a further extension of The Sak and Sakroots as full lifestyle brands.”

The Sak collection exudes a “California-cool, modern 70s vibe” and will feature several hat styles including fedoras, a sun hat, a cloche, a cowboy hat and floppy hats in linen, crochet and straw materials. Scarves include pleated, tasseled, crinkled, fringe, rouched and loop styles that will be available in a variety of colors such as natural, taupe, light raspberry, red, orange, cayenne, azure, gingersnap etc. The belt collection will include leather, crochet, macramé, rope, chain and cord with signature brand elements such as braiding, patchwork, embroidering and stitch detailing. The Sak hats, scarves and belts will retail for $12 to $32.

The Sakroots collection is inspired by peace, nature and music. The Spring collection will feature six hat styles including newsboy, cloche, fedoras and floppy hats retailing from $12 to $32. Five scarf styles will also be available in a variety of Sakroots original artist prints such as White Peace Print, Lemon Peace Print, Black Peace Print, Water Nation Wave, Orchid Water Nation, Black Flower Power, Taupe Flower Power, Neon One World, and Cayenne One World. Retails $16 to $32.

Both brands–The Sak and Sakroots–are sold in more than 4,500 department stores across the country and in more than 850 specialty stores.
