Spring style from Prabal Gurung for Target limited edition collection

Minneapolis—Celebrity stylist Kate Young and designer Prabal Gurung are the latest upscale names to collaborate with Target on  limited edition collections featuring high style apparel and accessories at “masstige” pricepoints.

Who hasn’t designed for Target? Isaac Mizrahi, Jason Wu, Missoni, Zac Posen, Rodarte, Proenza Schouler (not to mention the 24 designers who participated in the Target + Neiman Marcus Holiday Collection) all have worked with the retail giant on limited collections, some of which sold out in hours.

The better question, says designer Gurung, whose special collection with Target goes on sale beginning Feb. 10, is “who has designed for Target?”

“It’s almost like a rite of passage for new, young designers,” says Gurung. “This collection was inspired by love and if Target’s guests can feel even a little bit of the love that I felt while I was designing this collection, then I will consider it a job well done.”

So far, Target has only released one image from the collection so far—the tease factor at work—there are a few details about Gurung’s collection. It will be priced to retail between $19.99 to $199.99 for apparel, $12.99 to $39.99 for jewelry, handbags and shoes.

The 80-plus piece Prabal Gurung for Target collection will reflect “Gurung’s distinct aesthetic—impeccable tailoring, feminine silhouettes, striking prints, hot-hued palettes and sleek styles.” Gurung, a recipient of the Ecco Domani Fashion Fund Award and runner-up to the 2010 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund, has a following ranging from Hollywood starlets to British royalty. In 2011, he was honored as one of USA Network’s Character Approved Award recipients, named goodwill ambassador of Maiti Nepal, a finalist of the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Award and was the recipient of the 2011 CFDA Swarovski Award for womenswear.

His collection will remain on sale through March 23—or while supplies last.

Young Brings Red Carpet Cred

Celebrity stylist Kate Young

A little less than a month after the Gurung collection exits, Target will bow its next limited edition collection, a collaboration with Kate Young, an influential celebrity stylist who The Hollywood Reporter recently named to a list of 25 most powerful stylists, recognizing her ingenuity, expertise and masterful mix of high-low fashion.

The Kate Young for Target collection, which will be available beginning April 14, will consist of special occasion dresses for day and evening, standalone separates and accessories to mix and match all with Young’s eye for pushing trends. Prices will range from $29.99 to $89.99 on apparel, $14.99 to $49.99 for jewelry, handbags and shoes.

“I’ve been working with Target for a number of years as a stylist, so having the chance to design my own collection with a brand I already know and love is like a dream come true,” says Young. “With this collection, I wanted to design standout pieces that allow women to experiment with fashion and create their own red carpet moments.”

Young began her fashion career at Vogue assisting editor Anna Wintour, eventually styling covers at Teen Vogue. Soon, she transitioned into one of the most sought-after stylists in the fashion industry with a clientele boasting Natalie Portman, Michelle Williams, Rachel Weisz and more. In addition to celebrity styling, Young consults for various labels and often styles runway shows for designers such as Jason Wu, Derek Lam, Nina Ricci, Peter Som, Yigal Azrouël and Vena Cava.

Young, in fact, has styled a number of Target’s campaigns, such as Jason Wu for Target, as well as Target’s New York vertical fashion show in 2005.
