Heading to AccessoriesTheShow this January 7-9? Make sure to visit the Spring 2018 trend boards created by Accessories Magazine to see pre-shop the trends.
“In the name of enhancing the shopping experience for retailers, all brands featured will also be marked with their booth number so retailers can pretty much shop right off the boards,” notes Lauren Parker, Editor-in-Chief of Accessories magazine. The 8-foot high double-sided boards will be located at the front of the show and feature the following eight trends:
GEN Z YELLOW
Is Gen Z Yellow the new Millennial Pink? Some say yes, and fashion is closely watching this sunny shade that launched a million emojis. Look for all hues of yellow including mustard and paler tones.
Fashion heads to the tropics with lots of colorful raffia, pom poms, tassels and straw. Fruits of all sorts, but mainly pineapples, cherries and lemons, make for tasty motifs. Colors remain tropical bright, with lots of reds, fuchsia, orange and yellow.
Pastels aren’t going anywhere for Spring 18. Look for lavender to emerge as a popular new hue, and see how pastels are mixed and matched in styling and on single items. Other popular pastel shades include mint green, baby blue, pink and pale yellow.
Designers got in touch with their inner child, tapping into that love of comic books and cartoon imagery. Primary colors of red, yellow and blue evoke classic combos, while words and illustrations kept things creative. Evoking a Pop Art 80s movement, bold splashes of paint also come into play.
The Wild West pushes out to the prairie this season, with a more feminine approach. Think Western shirts in pink, flouncy tiered prairie skirts, fringe and dainty floral prints on scarves. It’s all accented with traditional Western pieces like turquoise stones, steer head jewelry and cactus motifs.
UNDER THE SEA
Fashion hits the beach hard this season, rising out of the sea like fashionable mermaids. Scenic beach photos, shell and starfish motifs, nautical colors, anchors and fishermen net handbags all nestle into a floating haze of blue/green hues.
This trend is clear: translucent plastics are a new trend for Spring 2018. Think plastics, Lucite, jellies, black and white mixes. In many cases, black opaque trim offers stark contrast.
WOODS & NATURALS
She’s a natural for Spring 18. Accessories turn to wood in all shades, notably in geometric and ball shapes. Also look for round wooden handles on straw, cork bags and other natural materials.
