Kansas City, MO—They are a trio of self-described “sockpreneurs”: an entrepreneur, an attorney and marketing strategist, and another lawyer and “media man.”  After meeting at a networking coffee and brainstorming ideas, they came up Sock101.

Seeing the trend toward more fashionable socks—especially in the previous dour men’s offerings, partners Dave Feyerabend, Jason Grill, and Lea Bailes wondered why all the fun colorful yet professional socks were selling for upwards of $25 retail. “We wanted a line of socks that they say look good and don’t break the bank.”

Designed in Kansas City and debuted last fall on their website, Sock 101 socks retail for a mere $7.

Tights to Come

“That’s right, seven bucks for a great pair of socks,” says Bailes, who handles Sock 101 marketing. “We ship our socks in 24 hours and there is a flat rate shipping price of $5.95 no matter how many socks you buy.”

The website also offers a sock-of-the-month club, a six pack and sock gift cards.

One of the early fan of the socks is former President George H.W. Bush who claims to be “a sock man” too.

While the original collection was aimed mostly at men, women also bought the collection, some even posting photos of themselves on the Sock 101 Instagram page.

“We started with men because there were not as many options for me as women,” says Bailes. “We also saw a need for a high quality, low cost line of socks for professionals.  However, we do see the need now for low cost, quality women’s tights. We may look at this concept for the second half of 2013.”
