Portland, OR—A misty alpine horizon, an astronaut feline and a rampaging Godzilla may seem like disparate themes, but they have one thing in common. They are all subjects of a Fall 2015 sock collection from Sock it to Me and the top three finishers in the hosiery company’s 10th anniversary International Design-a-Sock Contest.
The first place winner of the contest was 19-year-old Emily Mackey from San Luis Obispo, CA, for her design “Fir Sure.” She received $5,000 and her design will be manufactured in Sock It to Me’s Fall 2015 Collection. Second place went to Emily Dumas from Beverly, MA, for her design “Space Kitty,” and the third place to Cathie Gabe from Winterville, GA, for her design “The Rampage.” The second and third place winners received $1,000 and $500, respectively.
Sock It to Me received more than 4,600 entries from artists located in more than 60 countries around the world including Iran, India, Italy, Poland, Malaysia, Egypt, Iraq, Iceland and more. After a panel of judges (including Accessories magazine’s editor-in-chief Lauren Parker) narrowed the selection to top finalists, consumers then voted and ranked the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners in an online poll
The artists ranged in talent and age, with the oldest entrant at 82 years old and the youngest at 3 years old. Some of the fun design trends submitted included aliens, giraffes, snakes, ice cream, popcorn, pizza and watermelon, all of which will provide great inspiration for Sock It to Me’s future collections.
