Between back-to-back international fashion weeks and trade shows galore, fashion month has brought a slew of new names and partnerships to the eyewear category. With all the launches and moves, it’s easy to have missed out on what’s happening. Here, a round-up of four moves you need to know about.
EPONYM SHOWS JASON WU EYEWEAR
Late last year, Epoynm signed Jason Wu to its growing list of licensed designer eyewear brands. And this month the fashion world got a first glimpse of the partnership with Wu’s Spring 2017 collection, their inaugural season working together.
The collection included 24 sunglasses SKUs and 24 optical SKUs. They worked with Wu’s direction to create styles that met his vision and maintain his timeless, glamorous sensibility and distinctively feminine aesthetic.
Eponym, an eyewear up-and-comer that specializes in licensing niche designer brand names, also produces glasses for Steven Alan and Alice + Olivia. Andrew Lipovsky, Eponym Founder, said that there are a number of brands they are currently in discussions to work with, but they are very selective about who they partner with. Stay tuned as more deals are announced.
SAFILO ADDS MOSCHINO AND LOVE MOSCHINO TO THEIR PORTFOLIO
Safilo Group has signed a long-term deal with Moschino to design, produce and distribute Moschino and Love Moschino optical frames and sunglasses for eight years. The partnership starts in January 2018 and runs through 2025, with an option to extend for another eight years.
The company had their eyes set on a designer who could bring a sense of wit and whimsy to their portfolio and found it with Moschino. Of the partnership, Safilo CEO Luisa Delgado says, “The subversive and pop spirit of the brand demands the highest levels of creative sensitivity, product knowledge and industry expertise, that have all been in our DNA since 1878. Moschino is an amazing inspiration for Eyewear stylistic design and product creation. It perfectly leverages our leading capability to translate distinctive brand equity into iconic design, and transform the most incredible sketches into detailed product construction and excellence of manufacturing.”
The Moschino and Love Moschino Eyewear collections will be distributed worldwide in quality optical stores, department stores and in all Moschino Boutiques.
MOVITRA DEBUTS AT SILMO PARIS
Sunglasses newcomer Movitra showed at Silmo Paris, the Parisian eyewear industry trade fair, earlier this month. The brand is less than a year old and is already retailing at select Barney’s, Colette in Paris and other high-end retailers worldwide.
All styles are made in Italy and feature a patented, front-folding arm that prevents the lenses from getting scratched when not being worn. Their look is a chunky frame in several shapes and colors with stylish details like colorful lenses, putting them on our list of ones to watch.
