After 20 years of being in business together, Safilo S.p.A. and Christian Dior Couture have once again extended their licensing agreement through the year 2020. Safilo will continue to be responsible for the design, manufacturing and worldwide distribution of the Dior and Dior Homme sunglasses and optical frames collections. Their current contract expires at the end of 2017 and brought sales totaling, some experts believe, about $212 million to $223 million annually.
“DIOR eyewear has established itself as the leading trendsetter in sunglasses,” says Luisa Delgado, CEO of SAFILO. Among the partnership’s recent successes are celebrity collaborations, including one with perennial cool-girl Rihanna, major ad campaigns and major gains in distribution. The French label recently brought on Maria Grazia Chiuri as its Chief Creative, who works closely with Safilo’s design team.

Simultaneously announced, Safilo is closing its licensing agreement with Céline collections of sunglasses and optical frames at the end of its current contract, set to expire on December 31, 2017. Céline Eyewear joined the Safilo brand portfolio in 2012, and represents today just above 3% of Safilo’s worldwide sales concentrated mainly in Europe and North America.
