This week, Safilo launched its third Eyewear Product School, a structured three-year apprenticeship that blends artisan training into an international business context.
Safilo founded the Eyewear Product School in 2015, and the upcoming 2017/18 edition marks the brand’s upcoming 140th anniversary. Part of the company’s sustainability strategy (Product-People-Planet), the program entrusts new generations with the Safilo legacy, nurturing research and celebrating hand making.
Five young talents were selected from more than 130 applications. They will join their colleagues from previous editions and, inspired by the German apprenticeship model, will learn through practical on-the-job training, coaching, formal class tutorials and explorations in the field. Students will be involved in all areas of production—from design to development, prototyping to industrial production and demand to distribution.
Students will rotate jobs across Safilo’s worldwide manufacturing locations, design studios and commercial subsidiaries. The apprenticeship is designed to prepare for international career development towards Product Director at Safilo Group.
