Safilo Group and The New School’s Parsons School of Design are teaming up for the first-ever Safilo x Parsons Design Thesis Competition.
The competition provides six thesis-level BFA students with the opportunity to design eyewear as part of their final thesis work, with the winner having a prototype manufactured by Safilo. The winning prototype will be displayed during Parson’s end of year benefit in May and each of the six finalists will have the opportunity to win a cash prize of $5,000.
Last Friday, November 11th, Safilo’s VP and Creative Director Alessandro Marcer, who heads the company’s New York design studio, met with the six finalists. The winning student will be selected by Safilo with the support of a panel of prominent fashion industry players.
The Safilo x Parsons Design Thesis Competition builds on Safilo’s commitment to educate younger generations by passing down the art of eyewear as the company has done with its Safilo Product School which was inaugurated in 2015 as an apprenticeship program.
