Italian eyewear manufacturer Safilo Group announced today that it has renewed a five-year licensing agreement along with JCPenney for the design, manufacturing and distribution of optical frames and sunglasses under the Liz Claiborne name for women’s and men’s brands in the U.S. and Canada.
The multiyear agreement gives continuity to two strong optical brands, regarded by independent optical retailers for fit and comfort for unique eyewear needs. The renewal also supports Safilo’s 2020 Strategic Plan, specially in an objective to proportionally grow the optical segment relative to its sun segment for optimal market positioning. The Liz Claiborne and Claiborne brands are two of Safilo’s most sought-after collections in the U.S. and deliver a stable, healthy business.
The Liz Claiborne brand entered Safilo’s U.S. portfolio in 2003 with an optical license that was part of the Outlook Eyewear acquisition. This was followed by the sunwear collection and, in 2004, the Claiborne ophthalmic collection.
