Everyone in Brooklyn might be wearing sneakers, but GREATS is the first born-in-Brooklyn sneaker brand. Launched in 2014, GREATS fuses Italian leather sneakers with a Brooklyn edge for both men and women.
Today, GREATS opens the doors to its first store in Manhattan (there is already an immersive Studio in Brooklyn). Located on the corner of Crosby and Broome Streets, the New York store follows their Los Angeles store, opened earlier this year.
The store’s clean, minimal aesthetic mirrors that of the sneakers, which are sleek and free of embellishments. (It is also quite Instagram friendly.) The displays were designed and built by renowned architect Ben Uyeda.
GREATS is also planning experiential events at the retail space, including “intimate discussions with industry veterans, artist meet-and-greets and the occasional Yappy Hour for customers with dogs.”
GREATS was co-founded by Ryan Babenzien, CEO, who previously led marketing teams at K-Swiss and PUMA as the Global Director of Entertainment Marketing. Babenzien has spoken at at Shoptalk, TechCrunch Disrupt NY, NYU Stern School of Business, MIT, and Fashion Digital NY about the Direct-to-Consumer footwear model.
The Venice, California store also has a minimal aesthetic, but with a different design.
