As if strolling boulevard Haussmann in Paris (baguette in hand, of course) wasn’t already charming enough, Prada is increasing the chic with special window displays at Galeries Lafayette. The displays, featuring women’s bags and accessories, are presented in tandem with two Prada pop-ups at the iconic department store running now through Aug. 20.
In addition to 11 large windows on boulevard Haussmann, Prada also occupies coveted space in four windows at the menswear entrance and a display on rue de Mogador devoted to perfumes. The “takeover” is completed by two store pop-ups in the main entrance plus a giant version of the designer’s iconic Trick Robots (available by special order) sited on the Galeries Lafayette skybridge.
Imagery throughout offers a mix of old meets new, juxtaposing traditional “pin-up” posters with space-age robots, also reflecting Prada’s view of the changing roles of women in society. One spotlight is on the Velvet bag, a modern take on the classic top-handle silhouette featuring embroidered velvet designed to look like an envelope closure and clasp.
