New York—Pharrell may be less than happy after a jury determined that he infringed on Marvin Gaye’s copyright last week, a$7.4 million mistake. But the Grammy-award winner has another reason to smile: he will be honored with the Fashion Icon Award at the 2015 CFDA Fashion Awards in collaboration with Swarovski on June 1 at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall.
The Fashion Icon Award is given to an individual whose style has made a significant impact on popular culture on an international stage. Williams joins the ranks of past honorees such as Rihanna, Johnny Depp, Lady Gaga, Iman, Kate Moss, and Nicole Kidman.
The American singer, songwriter, record producer, and fashion designer’s distinctive style has earned him a reputation for being one of the world’s most recognizable trendsetters, the CFDA noted.
While mostly known for his musical success, Pharrell has plenty of cred in fashion, too. He co-founded apparel brands Billionaire Boys Club and Ice Cream Footwear, has a boutique store in New York, designed jewelry for Louis Vuitton, a sunglass line Moncler Lunettes for Moncler, a long-term partnership with adidas, and a collaboration with G-Star Raw for a bionic yarn made from recycled plastic found in the ocean.
He also received The Hat Person of the Year by The Headwear Association (THA) in 2014.
“If cool was a person, it would be Pharrell, not just for his looks and sense of style but for his kindness and openness. I cannot imagine anyone not seduced by him,” said Diane von Furstenberg, president of the CFDA.

CFDA released its 2015 list of honorees and nominees for this year’s awards on Monday night.
