Obsessorize

Do you obsess over accessorizing? In other words, do you OBSESSORIZE?

Then you won’t want to miss the “Obsessorize” Public Art Exhibition on Madison Avenue kicking off on October 4th for a week-long retail event, with the sculptures remaining up for a month.  Organized by The Madison Avenue Business Improvement District and Marie Claire magazine, Obsessorize will feature 28 giant sculptures (8′ high!) created by students at The School of Visual Arts (SVA). The 28 students were inspired by head-to-toe accessories, taking inspiration from past decades of iconic accessories. The results will be enclosed in plexiglass cases.

This is the fifth time SVA and Madison Avenue have mounted a themed public art exhibition as a focal point of week-long retail festivals and events.

The 2018 sculptures were inspired by the following brands, but are creative and abstract, not literal interpretations. In other words, they will be highly Instagrammable! Retailers include: Agnes B, Alexis Bittar, alice + olivia, Aquatalia, Barbour, Barton Perreira, Christofle, David Webb, David Yurman, De Beers, Devi Kroell, Dolce & Gabbana, Dyptyque, Emilio Pucci, Etro, Editions De Parfums Frederic Malle, Frette, Guiseppe Zanotti, Goutal, Hueb, Ippolita, Isabel Marant, J. Crew Collection, J.J. Marco, Jaded, Lanvin, Longchamp, Lukure, Max Mara, Michael’s Luxury Consignment, Morgenthal Frederics, Paul Morelli, Roger Vivier, Schutz, Sonia Rykiel, Stuart Weitzman, Vilebrequin and Zadig & Voltaire.

There, Marie Claire Accessories Director Julia Gall will hold a conversation with SVA 3-D Design Chairman Kevin O’Callaghan, the professor of the student artists behind Obsessorize’s public art sculptures.

The “Obsessorize” sculptures will be on view from October 4 – October 26, but the shopping festivities last for the week of Oct 4-13. The event if free and open to the public and located on Madison Avenue, Between East 57th & East 86th Streets
