The Accessories industry lost an industry veteran last night. A long-standing board member of the Accessories Council, Ira Greenhouse had a long, illustrious career in fashion accessories, notably eyewear. Spending the bulk of his career at eyewear company Safilo (1995 to 2017) where he was most recently in charge of Special Sales at Safilo USA, he had also worked at Rennaissance Eyewear, Colors in Optics, Riviera Trading and others.
“One of our longest serving board members, we will remember Ira as a staunch supporter of the Council, our past Chairman and a man highly dedicated to our industry,” says Accessories Council President Karen Giberson. “Ira helped the Council with introductions and connections in the optical business, and as Chairman of the Council, he put in countless hours on strategy and advice in our formative years. He was a cornerstone in helping to build the organization that we are today. For those who didn’t know Ira well, he had a terrific sense of humor, was a wonderful friend and trusted colleague. We have really lost one of the great ones today. He will be dearly missed.”
Mark Ugenti, Senior Vice President, Safilo, noted: “Ira was a pioneer in the eyewear industry,” says He was loved by all who crossed his path. Not only will he be remembered as a devoted colleague but more importantly a dear friend who will be sorely missed by all.”
Greenhouse is survived by his wife Paula and daughter Jamie. A memorial will be held in honor of Ira Greenhouse on Friday, November 17, 12:30 p.m. at: Riverside Memorial Chapel, 180 West 76th Street, New York, NY 10023.
