New York–New York Fashion Week has drawn to a close, and while we’ve been posting Breaking Trends in accessories and will continue to do so for New York plus the international shows going forward, let’s take a break and check out some of the more interesting “moments” on the New York catwalks.
TECH & NEW MEDIA
Is media even a separate part of our lives anymore? Kenneth Cole and Betsey Johnson sent their models down the runways with cell phones, either chatting away at Betsey Johnson, or actually taking taking photos of the crowds at Kenneth Cole. Rebecca Minkoff’s show featured a giant Tweet Deck on the wall, where audience members waiting for the show to start could read tweets, and post photos of themselves, in real time.
PJ PARTY & MISSING CLOTHING
Leave it to Marc Jacobs to turn a fashion show into a glam pajama party, complete with oops-I-forgot-my-bottoms ensembles. And if that wasn’t enough, he then sent down a model with no top at all. Hey, why not?
FAUX FAUX FUR
With so much real (and fabulous) fur on the runways, PETA was surely up in arms. And since faux fur is nothing new, MM6 Maison Martin Margiela went one step further with a puffer coat and trapper hat with printed fur.
FUNKY REAL FUR
But who can forget Michael Kors’ take on mink–blue, black and white patched into clever camouflage? Maybe intended to let wearers hide in plain sight from irate PETA members? Won’t work, honey.
FASHION WITH BITE
And last but not least, designer Jeremy Scott came up with a very fun way to show off a model’s “killer abs.”
