Want to know what everyone will be wearing next spring? If history is any indicator, it’s everything presented today at Gucci’s SS18 runway show during Milan Fashion Week. Alessandro Michele’s house has been a trend factory in recent years, so much so that we felt the designer’s presentation called for its own post. Undoubtedly, Michele continued to up the ante, presenting an ’80s glam mashup of power shoulders, sequins and overall flamboyance à la Elton John. Over-the-top costume jewelry was paired with large-framed eyeglasses, teased-up hair and anything-goes headwear ranging from sequin turbans to conical hats. Handbags were equally as undiscriminating: Unstructured totes walked the runway with fanny packs, logo cross-bodies and rubber bucket bags. And of course, makeup was deliberately smudged, giving off the air of a hard-spent night at The Tunnel. Love it or hate it—Gucci has officially declared the ’80s back, and we can’t wait to see these megawatt looks take to the streets.
