Melissa Shoes, best known for its jelly sandals and flats, has just launched a collection of inflatable footwear by Jeremy Scott, a designer best known for his provocative, pop-culture ready-to-wear, as well as couture for clients like Katy Perry and Lady Gaga.
The six-item inflatable collection debuted earlier this week at Pan Am, a popular nightclub in Sao Paulo, and includes a high-heeled mule with an air nozzle in the back (shown above with Scott), a similarly equipped rain boot, two ballet-style flats, a tube sandal, and an toddler-sized “Mini Melissa Monkey Boot” (shown below).
Scott describes the collection as “playing off the fact that Melissa is known for its plastic shoes. I wanted to have it play with the inflatable pool toy ideas.”
Melissa stores in Sao Paulo and London are promoting the collection with inflatable art objects signed by Scott.
The Jeremy Scott partnership brings Melissa’s current number of designer collaborations to eight—a fashion-forward list that ranges from Karl Lagerfeld and Vivienne Westwood to J. Maskrey and Alexandre Herchcovitch.
Melissa also collaborated with Scott on the footwear for his recent runway show, “Cowboys & Poodles,” creating brightly colored, crystal-studded cowboy boots themed to what Scott called the “Dolly on Molly” Americana style of his clothes.
Because of the inflatable option, suggested retail for the Jeremy Scott collection ranges from $88 to $210, among with the highest prices in Melissa’s line—with the exception of J. Maskrey’s $395 to $480 Swarovski-studded wedding shoes.
