Edison, NJ—Legendary movie star and wisecracker Mae West once gave some good advice: “Don’t let a man put anything over on you except an umbrella.”

Leighton is hoping to make sure its umbrellas will be well suited to put over consumers’ heads–especially with the launch of its first two licensed umbrella collections with Adrienne Landau and Joseph Abboud.

Exotic Skin Prints for a Rainy Day

Famed for her plush fur vests, wraps, coats and home furnishings, Landau is known for her animal skin looks, a style that appealed to Futai.

“Adrienne Landau is a big factor in the fashion animal prints in both ready to wear and home goods in all the best stores,” says Jo Ann Iacono, marketing manager at Leighton. “Using her design talent with the same fashion image, we thought would be good for umbrellas.”

The company also added a Joseph Abboud collection, which features mens’wear patterns on collapsible and stick styles, include some featuring Leighton’s automatic open and close feature.

While the collection is really targeted to men, the hound’s-tooth and glen plaid patterns fit right in with the “borrowed from the boys” menswear influences in fall ready to wear.

Suggested retails on the collections range from $45 to $60.
