Kering Confirms Joint Venture with Tomas Maier of Bottega Veneta

Paris—After recently investing in British designer Christopher Kane and New York-based Joseph Altuzarra, Kering SA, the luxurygoods conglomerate behind Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent, looked within for its latest up-and-coming designer. Today the company confirmed it had entered into a joint venture with Tomas Maier, creative director at Bottega Veneta, to develop the Tomas Maier brand in partnership.

Maier, who was named as Bottega’s creative director in 2001 by Tom Ford, has helped turn Bottega into one of Kering (formerly PPR) into one of the best-performing brands under its umbrella.

In 1997, Maier formed is own eponymous label in the United States, best known for its swimwear, knit, jersey and accessories. Besides selling in more than 100 doors in stores in 30 countries, the Tomas Maier collection also has three stores, two in Florida and one in the Hamptons.

“I am excited to enter into this new chapter for the Tomas Maier brand in parallel with my role at Bottega Veneta,” Maier said. “I could not imagine a better partner than Kering for the Tomas Maier brand.”

The statement from Kering noted that the joint venture will “focus on developing and completing the assortment of products rounding up a complete lifestyle proposition for time-off.”
