Item of the Day: The Gussy

In Item of the Day, What's New by Jeff Prine

gussyPunxsutawney Phil, the Pennsylvania groundhog who supposedly predicts how far away we are from spring, today emerged from hibernation and did not see his shadow.

Hence, we supposedly are in for an early spring (contrary to what Planalytics recently forecast).

With spring come flowers and showers. Lots of showers. Drizzyingly on your hair, face and clothes.

Of course you can cover up with a rain hat and raincoat and umbrella. But what about your handbag—that Birkin, Coach or Kors—left to suffer the indignities of a rainstorm.

Jamie Brown, founder of The Gussy, recalls those days when she donned the latest designer “it” bag. “The purse was so fancy that it came with its own customized rain cover.”

Pretty soon, she found herself putting that raincover into whatever handbag she was carrying that day, knowing it would be safe if she were caught in the rain.

Whenever it would rain, women would stop her to rave about her clever rain cover. That’s how Brown said her The Gussy raincover was born. “

She designed The Gussy to work with lots of different handbag styles–hobos, top handle bags, you name it. Today, NYNow, the major NYC gift show, awarded The Gussy as one of the best new product awards.

“Who says you can only be ‘gussied up’ when it’s sunny out?” Brown adds.
