Item of the Day: Shore Projects

In Item of the Day, What's New by Jeff Prine

shoreWhen you think about Great Britain, your minds automatically jumps to Westminster, Carnaby Street, the Queen and 10 Downing Street, all iconic locations.

Shore Projects, a new British import that includes a line of watches with interchangeable straps, celebrates the beauty and fun of the British seaside. (Think White Cliffs of Dover). Each design is derived from a vintage style, fused with contemporary and high-quality materials, to create men’s and women’s watches for everyday wear.

Founded by a group of friends “disillusioned by the lack of affordable, expertly engineered and stylish timepieces on the market,” Shore Projects launched a collection of timepieces with a straightforward aesthetic, each with a clean, minimal feel that makes for a timepiece that’s “much more versatile than the garish, heavily branded pieces on offer from other ‘designer’ labels.”

With three watch case collections available in a number of finishes, both using Miyota quartz movements and sapphire crystal watch glass, and a wide variety of fabric, leather and Milanese mesh straps. The latest style, the Project 3 Explorer watch, can be updated with straps made of a combination of nylon and leather for a rugged, adventurous look.

shoreprojectA simple strap mechanism allows straps to be changed even on a daily basis if need be. How sensibly British, no?

For every Shore Projects watch sold, one British pound is also donated to The Coastal Initiative Project, which aids in the preservation of beaches and coastlines.

Shore Projects has another initiative #goodtimes–an ongoing photography competition that celebrates your good times from all over the world. Participants just share their images of good times along the shoreline on Instagram.

Retail: $190; straps $40
