For those of us who have have the misfortune to suffer a stress fracture or broken ankle it’s bad enough you have to wear a leg brace for weeks. Even worse, those medically necessary boots look like leftovers from a “Transformers” flick.
Why the orthopedist only stared at us blankly when we asked if he had “anything in a leopard print or color blocked suede?”
But now you can be hobbling around in style thanks to Christina Daves, creator of CastMedic Designs, who has created a line of more than 60 accessorizes including faux-fur wraps, decorative socks, flowers, and themed buttons, to spruce up the boot.
Daves says she came up with the concept when she, too, was forced to wear a walking medical boot after breaking her foot. Turned off by the prospect of wearing Frankenstein-esque boot for eight weeks, Daves searched for ways to dress up her look—to no avail. Evenutally she partnered with a local retailer and came with collection.
“My feeling was with at least 1.5 to 2 million medical boots precribed annually, why should that many people have to walk around in a big ugly boot? Why not have some fun?”
Why not indeed?
The collection includes Wrap-Its (decorative cuffs for the top of the boot), Stap-It (flowers that attach to the boot straps),Click-Its (a kid’s line of pink back buttons) and Sock-Its (decorative “socks” worn on the liner of the boot)—all designed to add some pizzazz and trendiness during your recuperation—or as Davis put its, a dose of “the Healing Power of Fashion.”
David takes her concept nationwide this month and, as we like to say on old Broadway, “break a leg.”
