It’s one thing to design “vegan” leather handbags, it’s another to live the lifestyle…and pass on that enthusiasm and authenticity to retailers and consumers. A PETA Approved company, Veggani was founded in 2015 in Philadelphia and is a trademark of Conscientious Trends, LLC.
Founder and Designer Laura de Waal’s goal in starting Veggani was “to create stylish, functional, quality handbags that do not compromise our ethics but promote them.” To that end, all bags are produced in a sustainable, animal-cruelty free manner, and also give back to impoverished communities.
Many of the bags’ linings are created using Repreve & Recyctex—recycled fibers that contain recycled materials including post-industrial waste, used plastic bottles and recycled fish nets.
Taking the effort one step further, some metal hardware on the bag is created by artisans in a remote village in the Xieng Khouang Province in Northern Laos. Laos is one of the most heavily bombed countries in the world, and the artisans work to clear the area of Vietnam War era bombs and recycle the aluminum into hardware.
Clutches range from $115 for plain to $140 for faux fur (all have zip flaps for additional storage and magnets to hold it neatly folded). Backpacks, hobos and satchels range from $150 to $260.
