Item of the Day: Rock Your Kicks

rockyourkicks2Back to School. Personalization. Arts & Crafts. Customization. Do it yourself. These are all current trends/topics that pervade the fashion industry.

What if your teen could deal with all of them at the same time?  Slim chance you say?

Not for the developers of Rock Your Kicks, which bills itself as the “first DIY paint kit of its kind.” The goal is to take your favorite pair of canvas sneakers and make them truly your own by painting them with an original design.

Each kit comes with 3 artist brushes, 5 acrylic paints, a paint palette for mixing colors, 1 stencil sheet, 1 practice canvas swatch and an instructional pamphlet with a color wheel.

For those who are more of a Jackson Pollock type artist than a Rembrandt, Rock Your Kicks provides a link to an “online community for artistic inspiration.” (There’s also a handy video). Suitable for ages 10 and up, the kit can be used on all kinds of canvas footwear—and canvas bags for that matter.

“All the major players in the sneaker industry have joined the custom silk screening phenomenon. But online and in-store sneaker customization has become very expensive and offers limited designs. Rock Your Kicks fills this void in the market place,” says Pepper Carlson, founder of Rock Your Kicks.

“You don’t have to be an artist to use the kits either. The original stencils will allow kids and young adults to customize their own sneakers using the private label paints and supplies provided in the kit.”
