ITEM OF THE DAY: LOVE TRENNA’S BROWN SUNNIES

In Item of the Day, What's New by Accessories Staff

Sometimes, a good business idea comes from shopping, like what happened to young jewelry designer Trenna Seney and how her line of sunglasses came about.

As Seney recalls, she has always been curious about making some accessories with 3D florals, although she wasn’t sure what kind of jewelry she could apply them to. “So one day, I was in a supply store and I saw some metallic roses and just stared at all their colors and just loved how pretty they were,” she says. “I thought that they can’t go on a bracelet or necklace—they were meant to stand out! It hit me that I should use them to make sunglasses pop and be so bold and pretty.”

After that entrepreneurial epiphany, Seney soon started to sell floral-adorned sunglasses through her already-existing jewelry brand, Love Trenna.

So far, Seney is offering six styles, all embellished with lightweight rosettes made with aluminum, with some even dipped with yellow gold or rose gold. Retails start at $40 and go up to $100, max.

Among them, what caught our eyes (pun intended) is Seney’s Brown Sunnies, which can be a statement piece without going over the top. With round brown-tinted lenses and a light frame, this item has rosettes in a rose gold color, making it an ideal pair for those who want to give the 3D Florals trend a try.

Creating statement pieces comes second nature to Seney. When she was a college student at SUNY New Paltz, she decided to make her own head chain, as she didn’t have enough money to buy one in retail. Afterwards, she started wearing it in public, which caught the attention of many ladies asking where she got her head chain from. After getting many compliments, she realized that she can pursue jewelry making as a business.
In 2013, Seney launched Love Treena, and since then, some of her pieces have been worn by personalites like Ramona Rizzo (of Mob Wives fame) and TV host Keisha Chante, among others.

Now four years into the business, Seney wants to expand her prospects by reaching out to retailers and doing pop-up shops, as well as keep her online site going strong. “Since all of my pieces are handmade, I want consumers to know that some of my designs are even limited edition so that they’ll be excited when something new gets released,” she says. “I want people to also enjoy my website and enjoy shopping on it.”
