It sounds a little sinister especially just a few weeks before Halloween, but tonight there’s a Blood Moon. So called because the full moon appears to turn a deep bloody red as the earth positions itself between the sun and the moon, creating a full lunar eclipse with a majestic red hue.
The astronomical wonder will be visible to the naked eye in most of North America at moonset. The glowing orb will be 5.3% larger than the last total lunar eclipse, which occurred on April 15, according to NASA.
If you’re too sleepy or you’d rather keep your distance from the phenomenon, you can always commemorate the event with jewelry (actually any event should be commemorated with jewelry, no?)
Little Hill Jewelry has Blood Moons everyday. Here interpreted in round copper earrings, textured with a crater-like surface. The full moon earrings are handmade to order.
