Item of the Day: Jalan Sahbá

In Item of the Day, What's New by Accessories Staff

After winding up as a finalist in the 2014 International Handbag Design Awards, designer Jalan Sahbá is proving she’s no one-trick pony…or in this case, calf hair.

Her highly-anticipated collection L’odissa is embedded with sophistication and sultriness. Trademarks of the designs are creamy calf leather, masterfully hand-carved semi-precious stones and tinged metals come together to create a timeless collection. Sahbá’s seamless juxtaposition of diverse materials makes for a bold, sophisticated and distinctive contribution, epitomized by the Elephanta.

This Italian-crafted, hair-on textured leather box clutch is framed by polished 14K gold plated hardware and adorned with a short removable bracelet-like chain handle. The interior is a flash of bold lemon-eyes Italian leather. It’s the perfect size to hold the essentials on that night out: your mobile, your money and the perfect shade of lipstick.

Drawn to art from a young age, Sahbá enjoys traveling the globe to find eclectic materials and shapes to use in her designs. She’s lived on four different continents to date, currently residing in Nairobi. And as a result of her formal training in interior design, Sahbá’s pieces tend to push the boundaries when it comes to traditional handbag design, distinguishing her collection in the social occasion market.
