ITEM OF THE DAY: CITYZEN BY AZIN NEW YORK SLEEVE SCARF

In Item of the Day, What's New by Christine Galasso

Remember as a child getting a vacation tee with the name of the place you visited was a holiday ritual? A baseball t-shirt with “Austin” splashed across the front or, perhaps, a tank top that read “Ocean City.” Well, the City Sleeve Scarf by Cityzen by Azin takes that concept in a totally sophisticated direction.

The scarves feature different international cities, from Berlin to Mumbai and back again. Our pick is the New York iteration, acting as an ode to our hometown rather than a beloved holiday spot. The city’s actual topography creates the scarf’s pattern with its rivers meandering around the curves of the body, and roads marking transitions in the garment.

The Sleeve Scarf can be worn as a scarf, a sleeve scarf, a shawl or simply wrapped around the body as a top or skirt with a decorative pin, although various styles are available, including traditional rectangle and square shapes.

Azin Valy is the architect turned designer behind Cityzen by Azin. Her idea was to transform aerial views of cities into wearable art, taking inspiration from colors and patterns of the earth from above. Ultimately, Valy wanted to promote a global dialogue and diplomacy through fashion, and connect the heart and soul of each featured city with that of the body.

One of our favorite ways the brand is doing that is by calling out its favorite spots on its website with useums, places to eat, drink and check out listed on product pages.

The New York Sleeve Scarf retails for $295 at cityzenbyazin.com.
