PonyBunItem of the Day: PonyBun

On Manhattan’s Upper West Side, home to Lincoln Center, Julliard and Arthur Murray, they are known as “bun heads.” That is professional, student and amateur dancers who keep their hair in buns while practicing or performing. In recent years, add to their ranks, yoga divas.

The neat, tidy and unobtrusive ballerina bun isn’t necessary easy to achieve, however, especially if you aren’t handy with bobby pins and a mirror. Enter PonyBun, a patented hair accessory that purports to provide a no-hassle, no-fuss tight bun that won’t fall apart.

Its “three-in-one” design consists of a ponytail holder attached to a bun cover along with an integrated comb. In seconds “one can make a ponytail, tuck her hair inside the bun cover, and snug it firmly in place with the comb.”

Originally the PonyBun was pitched to little ballerinas but the market has expanded.

“But we realized these moms were also using the PonyBun for themselves. So we decided to branch out beyond dance,” says PonyBun president Susan Michaud. “A PonyBun makes a great ballerina bun, but it can also make a quick and easy bun for any woman, in any situation.”

The PonyBun in Action

The latest styles come in crochet versions in an array of colors, some with rhinestones. Cloth versions will be available in the near future, too. (Bun heads everywhere must be doing pas de chats over this!)
