We’re not happy about it either! Moviegoers will have to wait till next summer to see her on the big screen.

Burbank, CA–With so many accessories designers referencing the upcoming “Great Gatsby” movie in Holiday 2012 trend boards, the collective “OMG!!” was pretty deafening when Warner Bros announced it’s pushing the opening back to…wait for it… Summer 2013!

The anxiously anticipated screen adaptation, slated to open Christmas 2012, was poised to drive the appetite for pearls and pales, vintage rhinestones, Deco geometrics, hair jewelry and more. And while the Jazz Age period film wasn’t the only driving force behind the popular ’20s Deco trend,  “Gatsby’s” timing was serendipitous.

Now, the industry will have to rethink some of its marketing materials.

The movie’s studio, Warner Bros., says it’s postponing the opening to “to make sure it reaches the largest possible audience.” Summer blockbusters, apparently, tend to have a larger reach then holiday ones. However, dressed-up holiday trends tend to have a larger reach during the holidays, so we are definitely not supporting this production delay!

Baz Luhrmann was nominated for an Oscar for “Moulin Rouge,” and “The Great Gatsby” (starring Leonardo DiCaprio as Jay Gatsby, Carey Mulligan as Daisy Buchanan, and Tobey Maguire and Isla Fisher in supporting roles), is expected to break visual ground, especially as it is being released in 3-D. If there is a silver lining to that now-torn beaded flapper dress, it’s that the Deco trend is expected to continue through Spring/Summer 2013. Now, we can focus on some of the era’s more casual, daytime looks as well.

It's only fair to share...
