Golden GlobesLos Angeles–Us fashion folk love a good period piece and the Foreign Press seemed to agree when it picked its nominations for the 68th Golden Globe Awards.

“The King’s Speech” will soon be the movie that everyone is rushing to see, particularly on news that it received seven Golden Globe nominations, including Best Picture. The film relays King George VI’s struggle to overcome his stutter before having to address his nation regarding England’s war with Germany. For her role as the Queen, Helena Bonham Carter was nominated for Best Supporting Actress. Expect lots of stately clothing, pearls, hats and furs, not to mention military epaulettes.

Other nominees that have our fashion heads spinning are:

  • The dark ballet thriller “Black Swan” (Best Picture);
  • Surrealistic fantasy “Alice in Wonderland” (Best Motion Picture—Musical or Comedy);
  • Campy star-is-born tale “Burlesque” (Best Motion Picture—Musical or Comedy);
  • Angelina Jolie’s international femme fatale in “The Tourist” (Best Actor);
  • The artsy Italian film “I Am Love” (Best Foreign Language Film);
  • Prohibition-era gangster series “Boardwalk Empire” (Best TV Series, Drama)
  • “Mad Men’s” Elizabeth Moss (best Actress in a TV Series, Drama)
