The Girl with the Dragon TattooWill the facially pierced, tattooed, Goth-looking heroine in the wildly popular “Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” trilogy spark a fashion inspiration? Young Hollywood is chomping at the leather-spiked bit to play computer hacker Lisbeth Salander in the American film remake of the dark thriller, in what is sure to be a career-making role.

Swedish author Stieg Larsson’s “Millennium” trilogy—“The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,” “The Girl Who Played With Fire” and “The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest”—has sold tens of millions of copies worldwide and is selling at a rate of one book per second in America, according to reports. Tour operators have been taking Americans on tours of Stockholm, where locals are eager to show off their own tattoos.

The first two books have already been transformed into Swedish cinematic sensations and Sony Pictures is working on the U.S. version with director David Fincher (Se7en). It’s a plum anti-glam role for the American actress who makes the cut. Top contenders include Ellen Page (Juno), Mia Wasikowska (Alice in Wonderland) and even Kristen Stewart (Twilight). Whoever makes it will play opposite British James Bond actor Daniel Craig. The movie will be released December 2011.

Amid all the dark, Goth themes already swirling around in fashion (thank you Twilight, True Blood and all the other vampire series), look for more tattoos and tattoo motifs, especially dragons, metal studs and lots of black leather to spike (pun intended) in popularity, particularly with the younger set. Hey, combat boots have already made their comeback, why not body piercing?
