Sophia Amoruso and her #GIRLBOSS book

You’ve probably followed Sophia Amoruso’s rags to riches story from dumpster diver to eBay star seller to Nasty Gal retail queen worth $280 million, so this 13-episode Netflix series “Girlboss” premiering tomorrow will bring it all back into view, even if it ends before its gets to the riches part (and ensuing bankruptcy). While Nasty Gal has since filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and Amoruso has left the company (now owned by Boohoo), the series “Girlboss” is “loosely based on Amoruso’s memoir #GIRLBOSS, depicting the scrappy beginnings of one of the fashion industry’s notable stories.

The show begins in San Francisco in 2006 with “Sophia Marlowe” struggling to make ends meet–sometimes stealing to do so–and learning to turn vintage finds into real money. According to Variety, “watching Sophia find and resell a vintage leather jacket at the end of the first episode has an inevitable, thrilling, superhero-origin-story feeling to it.”

With the HBO series “Girls” just ended, “Girlboss” is another opportunity to see at least one 20something try to navigate the real world, even if we already know the ending. “Girlboss” premieres Friday, April 21 on Netflix.
