A look from Fendi’s Resort 2016 collection

We’ve heard of It bags, but It straps?

There is a growing trend for unique and interchangeable handbag straps, and Fendi is capitalizing on it big time at the designer level. It’s not surprising, actually, as Fendi has already stoked the fashion flames with fur bag charms (below), so bag straps are just another clever way for customers to personalize their handbag.

Fendi’s Strap You collection offers nine different embellished straps for $1,000 each. Handbags sold separately, so it’s quite an add-on.

Other designers have also amped up their strap game, even if they are not necessarily sold separately. Many do have detachable clasps, so the straps can be added to totes or satchels for cross-body wear. It’s all about options. And personalization.

A rocker look from Rebecca Minkoff’s Fall 2015 show

Rebecca Minkoff, who said she was inspired by rocker Patti Smith’s (excellent) memoir “Just Kids” sent her Fall 2015 models down the runway with a heavy 70s rock ‘n’ roll vibe. Handbags featured lots of fringe and a guitar strap-inspired strap.

A look from Valentino Resort 2016

Valentino featured hand-held totes with detachable cross-body straps with a heavy military theme. Camouflage, with Chinese dragon embroidery, added an interesting mix of ideas.
