Shearling Lewa Échapeau

Amsterdam—Sometimes the whole really is greater than the sum of the parts!

We were pleasantly surprised–and intrigued–when we discovered this latest coldweather accessory du jour—the Échapeau.

Derived from the French words for scarf (écharpe) and hat (chapeau), the Échapeau can be worn either as one stylish piece or as a classic hat and scarf set making it easy to modify any look with a snap–literally! The line was created by Netherlands-based designer Nicolette Lazarus for her accessories brand L for Lazarus.

Both fashionable and functional, the styles feature feminine and modern interpretations of classic newsboy and shearling caps constructed with a variation of faux fur, wool, polar fleece and other water resistant fabrics ensuring you’ll stay warm, cozy and effortlessly chic on your next winter expedition..

“L for Lazarus is a brand for women who are comfortable with who they are, and know what they want from fashion accessories: style, quality, versatility and the ability to transform their look on a daily basis,” said Lazarus on her blog.

The line officially launches this month and will be available in time for fall delivery. The line retails for around $130 to $170 and will soon be accessible on its e-commerce site currently in development. In the meantime, you can read Lazarus’ blog and find out more about the Échapeau and L for Lazarus at

We think even Frosty would trade-in his top hat for an Échapeau.
