2013ihdalogoGet your handbag samples and sketches ready! If you want to apply to this year’s Independent Handbag Designer Awards, the clock is ticking!

Run by The HBDNetwork and now in its 7th year, the Annual Independent Handbag Designer Awards are the only handbag competition of its kind in the world.

Submit your handbag design and compete for one of six awards in handbag excellence, international recognition and a variety of coveted prizes at the awards ceremony held in New York. Winners will also be featured in the September issue of InStyle magazine.To participate in the open call, you are required to upload one digital jpeg image to one or more of the following categories:

  • Best Handbag in Overall Style & Design: Winner will receive a booth at WWDMAGIC, the opportunity to develop a capsule collection for Bloomingdale’s, and a collaboration with 2012 ICONOCLAST Recipient Rafé.
  • Charming Charlie Best Student Made Handbag: Winner will receive the opportunity to collaborate with charming Charlie, the hottest store across America
  • Brother Best Handmade Handbag:  Winner will receive a designer profile and guest blogging opportunity on the BrotherSews Facebook page ( as well as a feature-packed computerized sewing machine from the Simplicity® by BrotherTM line.
  • The Timberland Best Green Handbag: Winner will receive the chance to collaborate with Timberland to have their product for sale in the Timberland stores.
  • Most Socially Responsible Handbag: Winner will receive a marketing feature with JP Selects/The Patron Spirits Company.
  • Audience Fan Favorite Handbag: Based on Finalists Selected hosted by
