London—What handbag designer doesn’t dream of creating a line with one basic style, then seeing buzz explode on the international blogosphere, then selling to 100 countries with a sales surge of 400% increase in year four over three.
Julie Deane, founder of Cambridge Satchel, is living that dream after founding her company on her kitchen table (she also won several industry awards this year including the prestigious WGSN Global Fashion Award for Footwear & Accessories Design Team and Drapers ‘Smaller E-tailer of the Year’, while her company was named a UK National Champion in the European Business Awards). Deane is also a finalist in the Natwest Woman’s Awards and Growing Business Awards.
But accolades aside, the handbags will now be sold in its first eponymous retail store. The London store will open during London Fashion Week in February 2013, but consumers can get a sneak preview at the December 8, 2012 pop-up shop.
“This has been an incredible year for The Cambridge Satchel Company,” says Deane. “Our customers want a place to come and visit us and we have found the perfect home in Covent Garden. This shop will be unique; not only will we be selling the core range but also special exclusive bags. There will be a host of special events and something for the blogging community who supported us from the start. We will be offering membership of an exclusive Bloggers’ Lounge which will give this community a base whilst in London along with a few special perks. We are excited about this next step in building our brand and engaging with our loyal fans and supporters.”
