With an actual rocket that took center stage, Chanel’s Fall 2017 show was a literal showstopper. Updated versions of the house’s classic tweed suit competed with the showmanship while metallic silver–on metals, leather and within the tweeds–added to its intergalactic theme. As for its space-aged accessories, it was all about embellished pearl and beaded knit headbands, along with layered, statement-making chokers.
Demma Gvasalia, the former creative genius behind Vetements who is now at the helm of Balenciaga, set the bar for capturing “modern sophistication” for the house’s Fall 2017 collection. That vision translated into clothing full of ease and wearablitly, cast in floral prints, metallic high shine and colorful spandex. The accessories, on the other hand, were slightly more ostentatious with brightly-hued boots, mismatched, oversized earrings, layered belts, a continuation of last season’s oversized totes and cool-printed scarves tied around wrist.
Phoebe Philo’s offering for Celine’s Fall 2017 collection was opposite most of PFW’s shows, opting for less of a runway spectacle and showing a straightforward collection. Clothing played with proportion and volume, with raincoats (in many variations, styles, colors and fabrics) being a main focus. Shoulders were slung with geometric and shapely black nylon totes, while oversized, mismatched earrings also took a turn down the Celine catwalk.
