Being party to the Magna Carter world is what Barneys New York hopes to bring to its holiday festivities and sales.
Confirming rumors, the retailer announced today that Shawn “Jay Z” Carter is the latest celebrity to partner for “A New York Holiday,” a collaboration benefiting the Shawn Carter Foundation.
Much like was the case when Lady Gaga collaborated with Barneys, Jay Z has collaborated on a collection of limited edition products, including designs from Balenciaga, Balmain, Lanvin, The Elder Statesman, En Noir, Hoorsenbuhs, Just Don, Proenza Schouler, Rick Owens, Stutterheim, Acne Studios, and Cutler & Gross.
‘How New York Inspires Me’
Debuts of additional limited edition product by Jay Z will also be available, such as including Shawn Carter by Hublot timepieces (retail about $33,900) and a specially designed humidor by Comador. Barneys will be donating 25% of sales of A New York Holiday merchandise to the Shawn Carter Foundation.
“With this project, Barneys New York and I were able to take the slickness, energy, and innovation of New York City and translate that into quality, timeless pieces,” said Jay Z. “Everything that encompasses ‘A New York Holiday’—the items chosen, the amazing designers that participated, the windows, the design of
the BNY SCC Gallery—represents a perfect example of a unique and groundbreaking collaboration that I hope demonstrates how inspiring New York has been to me.”
The limited edition collection will be available exclusively at Barneys New York beginning November 20 in an “immersive gallery space” on the third floor of the Madison Avenue store that has been described as a “creative collaboration between Mr. Carter, visual artist Joanie Lemercier, and Barneys New York Creative Director Dennis Freedman.” The collection will also be available on Barneys.com and in stores in Beverly Hills, Boston, Chicago, and San Francisco.
The same date, Nov. 20, when the BNY SCC gallery opens, Barneys will unveil its holiday windows which will use innovative technology from Christie, Inc to incorporate video mapping, LED light design and projection into the interactive display. #BNYSCC
