Just call it Prime Day and a Half!
As if Amazon wasn’t powerful enough, now it’s extended its much-anticipated annual Prime Day to be longer and more full of deals.
Prime Day is now July 16 at 12pm PT/3pm ET through July 17 (that’s an extension from 30 hours in 2017 to 36 hours, with more than one million deals exclusively for Prime members around the world, plus select deals at all U.S. Whole Foods Market stores.
Of course, Amazon’s Prime Day is a way to get more people to sign up for said deals, and the e-tailers also offers a gateway 30-day free trial at amazon.com/primeday to get people hooked.
“Prime members will enjoy a day (and a half) of our best deals, with 36 hours to shop more than one million deals worldwide,” said Jeff Wilke, Amazon CEO Worldwide Consumer. “New this year, members can shop exclusive Prime Day Launches from hundreds of brands worldwide, enjoy exclusive savings at Whole Foods Market and experience surprise entertainment events unboxed from giant Smile boxes in major cities. More than 100 million paid Prime members around the world will find our best Prime Day celebration yet.”
Etailers, of course, are coming out with their own shopping events, some directly referencing Prime Day and positioning themselves as contrarians.
Ebay, for example, wrote “Why spend money on monthly membership fees to get deals on the things you want? Beginning the week of July 16th, head to eBay for exclusive deals on whatever you’re into this summer – no membership required… ever. Shop thousands of brand new, in-demand items across categories like electronics, home, fashion, and sporting goods at up to 80% off their regular retail price. And, with free shipping on eBay Deals items, you can get all the things that’ll fuel all your passions.”
Take that, Amazon!
