Jewelers International Showcase (JIS) was founded in 1979 to supply the Jewelry Trade Markets of Latin America, the Caribbean, Florida and the rest of the United States with just-in-time product during the busiest buying seasons of the year.  Since the shows were established, they continue to be produced in the premier buying months of October, January and April; all taking place in the Art Deco District of Miami Beach Florida.

By holding the shows in such a globally desired destination, the JIS Shows create the perfect mix of business and pleasure by allowing attendees to enjoy some of the world’s most famous beaches, world class dining, unsuppressed night life and even a post-show relaxing cruise.

Accessories caught up with Jordan Tuchband, the Industry Vice President for JIS to chat about the show’s past, present and future:

How long have you been with the JIS Show? I started working for JIS in a part time capacity as a temporary employee and have worked full time for the show since 2005.

What are the dates for 2015/2016?

What is unique about the JIS Show? When JIS was founded in 1979, our niche in the jewelry trade show industry was the ability for exhibitors to actually deliver merchandise to trade only buyers directly on the show floor IN ADDITION TO the more common order writing from sample lines. As the shows grew exponentially in size, attendance, and prominence in our industry, we continually explored new markets and opportunities. This led us initially to vast and powerful markets in the Caribbean region and then to Latin America – where JIS is the number one jewelry trade show for attendees in both of these areas.

What type of exhibitors/brands/merchandise are at the show? As the second largest jewelry trade show in the western hemisphere, our exhibitor and attendee bases are incredibly diverse. This diversity has created a show floor that has today’s leading jewelry designers, brands, wholesalers, and manufacturers offering their lines at just about every price point. From funky and fresh fashion jewelry, to traditional gold & silver designs, to ultra-high-end finished jewelry, JIS is truly a one stop shop for trade buyers as they stock up on inventory around each major retail selling season.

What type of clientele attends your shows? Our main clientele are Jewelry Retailers from Latin America, the Caribbean and Florida. We’re actually the #1 Jewelry Show for Latin American, Caribbean and Floridian Jewelry trade buyers.

What are some new and exciting changes to the JIS Shows? The show has a lot of new and exciting changes for October 2015, so it’s difficult to narrow it down to only a few. I’m particularly excited about the new list of expanded International and Specialty pavilions on the Show floor, which means more exhibitors than ever from around the world.  Also for the first time at JIS, we’re excited to welcome a brand new 12,000 square foot Plumb Club Pavilion featuring many “best in class” exhibitors.

This year’s October Show also debuts the launch of LUXURY Miami – a curated, invitation-only jewelry buying experience where top retailers from all around the world will be able to shop from the best exhibitors in a private and upscale environment alongside JIS.

What is the biggest trend you see coming to the JIS Show this October?

With JIS shows being produced in Miami Beach, Florida we are at the forefront of some of the latest fashion-forward designs. South Florida is a primary commerce hub for business flowing to and from Latin America and a huge internationally recognized tourist destination, so it is common for many exhibitors to have product launches and product lines catered specifically for this audience. This year we have seen a lot of new exhibitors focusing on a more branded approach as collectibles are hot! They inspire consumers to add that new charm, stacking bangle, or bead whenever the occasion calls for it, are highly customizable, and available at all budgets.

What is your favorite thing to do in Miami Beach? As a South Florida native, I’ve grown up with the beach and the water as part of everyday life, but there is so much more to this area than just the world famous beaches. While I love the ocean, I’m a “foodie” and Miami Beach is home to some of the most incredible and diverse restaurants in the world and every time I look, there is always something new and unique opening.
