Elmont, NY—California Chrome as well as the other horses running Saturday at the Belmont Stakes are all vying for the winner’s circle. Joining them for the first time will be Longines Most Elegant Woman.
The Swatch Group-owned watch brand is official timekeeper for Belmont, the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness and hopes to heighten the glamour factor (move over Derby!) at the Belmont Stakes.
Triple Crown Tension
As part of the contest, the brand’s roving photographer will identify 100 elegant women at Belmont and give them a button to bring back to the fashion contest area at 1:00. Once they arrive Longines will announce the top 20 who will have the opportunity to walk the stage for the judges.
Those judges will include retired New York Yankee Bernie Williams and Miss New York, Kira Kazantsev. The third judge still was awaiting confirmation at press time. The judges will then select the Most Elegant Eoman from the top 20 and she will receive a stainless steel and rose gold diamond watch from Longines’ Conquest Classic collection.
The tension is heightened at this year’s race due to California Chrome’s historic run for the elusive Triple Crown. Thirty six years have passed since Affirmed won the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes and Belmont Stakes to achieve what’s considered the greatest accomplishment of a thoroughbred racehorse. As Official Timekeeper, Longines timed California Chrome’s recent wins at the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes and will award the owner, trainer and jockey of the winning horse at Belmont with watches from the brand’s Conquest Classic collection.
Longines will also award elegant timepieces to the winning owner, trainer and jockey of the “Longines Just a Game” race. To highlight its partnership, the watchmaker will have a prominent presence throughout Belmont properties, with a large chronograph at the finish line, clocks in the paddock area and a digital “Longines Belmont Stakes Countdown Clock” on the official Belmont Stakes website, www.belmontstakes.com.
